People
The Laundry started as a collective of like minded friends and party people who helped create some of the best parties London’s ever seen. Some of the key players who bring it all together are…
Olly Groves (Co-Founder & Resident DJ)
Following an unhealthy amount of time spent in clubs and muddy fields it was clear the culture that consumed Olly’s early life was going to be a big part of the rest. By the end of the eighties he’d amassed enough records to entertain a crowd and has been DJ’ing ever since. Amongst other things he ran one of the UK’s best music promotions companies through the 90’s before The Laundry kicked off in 1999.
He’s never considered DJ’ing a profession but a look at his CV shows a plethora of appearances at the likes of Fabric, The End & Renaissance alongside infinite underground parties. A record which most ‘Pro’ DJ’s would be proud.
An immensely talented DJ he has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things dance coupled with a canny knack of playing the right track at the right time. Olly is open to all forms of music and it shows in his sets…unique, inspired and always guaranteed to deliver that little bit extra.
Andy Stone (Co-Founder & Art Director)
Co-instigator of ‘Absolution’ with Damian Isaacs, Andy was behind the Free boat parties which bought The Laundry team together.
Mr Stone is The Laundry’s man about town, a key player in spreading the word and finding the unique locations for which The Laundry is famous.
Not one to grace the decks Andy’s skills come in the hosting, production and art direction of the parties. Drawing on a lifetime of furniture & interior designer experience Andy ensures The Laundry always offers an impeccable audio-visual experience along with unique artists from the visual & performing arts.
Steve Da Conga (Co-Founder & Resident DJ)
Da Conga was first encouraged by a lack of invention within the DJ World which he inhabited. Since his day job involved working with some of the world’s best jocks it was only a matter of time until the realisation that he had at least as much to offer.
His ethic is to entertain and play to the crowd; a factor many DJs seem to have forgotten. “Don’t take it too seriously and always play it like a party” is the theory. His love of all things latin is influential in his style and can often be heard to drop a salsa bomb in the mix to leave a Da Conga beats signature wherever he don’s the headphones.
A long time player in the music business he can be found trawling the clubs and bars to find the next big thing with his management company Big Fish Little Fish.
Damian Isaacs (Co-Founder & Resident DJ)
Along with Andy was promoter of the infamous Absolution boat parties which bought The Laundry collective together in the late 90’s. A favourite with the crowd and never one to conform Damian is one of the key proponents of The Laundry sound.
He’s since gone on to open a number a bars and a restaurant with his main focus The Rinky Dink bar in Clapham, London.
Along with the other Laundry residents Damian has graced the decks at some of nation’s greatest clubs and is frequently found rocking the crowd into the early hours at an underground party somewhere in the back streets of south london.
Alison Marks (Co-Founder & Resident DJ)
A founder member of the Laundry Massive before her talents were soon recognised across the globe. She’s played everywhere from Ibiza to Iceland, Czech Republic, Russia, Demark, USA, Mexico, Hong Kong to The Netherlands and Argentina, before a move to Moscow and recent return to blighty.
Unlike many of her peers Alison achieved her status by being simply a technically brilliant jock with a unique and emotive sound.
The studio is now the main focus of Alison’s attention. Unlike many DJs, Alison embarked on a mission to be completely self sufficient in the studio and has since released a number of highly acclaimed works across some of the world’s most respected electronic labels.
Rikky Rock (Co-Founder & Resident DJ)
Hailing from Blackpool and a child of Club Shaboo and Jooce Rikky had been DJ’ing as long as he could remember. A key driver in the creation of the Laundry Rikky was known for his breakbeat but he rocked both the main and back rooms with all sides of sound before leaving to focus on his own projects.
